Hunter and Hunted

Continuing with the theme of powerful women (see last entry), I completed this lovely pair.  The lady in red is a Reaper Bones Demon Hunter named Masumi. Masumi means "true purity," "true clarity," or "true beauty".  The Demoness is also a Reaper Miniature.  Her name is Virina.  Virina means "female" or "womanly".

Virina used her demonic charms to lure locals to their demise and an eternal suffering in Hell.  The villagers prayed for a savior to stop the demoness.  One morning, Masumi appeared out of the mountain mists.  She strode into the middle of the village, stopped, and called out the name, Virina.
Hearing her summoning, Virina smiled.  Darkness spread across the village.  Virina stepped out of it to confront her adversary.

"You know, sister, that these mortals are not worth your time."

"I stopped being your sister, when you gave yourself to the Evil One, Virina."

"You can not defeat me, Masumi."

"We shall see."

Lighting struck the ground between where the two were standing followed by a a clap of thunder that shook the heavens. A second later, the combatants went for one another.  Tales of their epic battle would be passed down by the villagers for centuries.

Joining The Family

My son bought me Heroscape: Battle for the Wellspring Box Set for Christmas.  I finally finished painting the six figures that came with it.  I am pleased overall with my effort.  My only knock is that the base color is somewhat darker than the true ones. I guess you can't have everything. Take a look.  Picture below.

National Dragon's Day

A few posts back I showed you a dragon I got from Walmart and repainted.  I liked it so much that I bought 3 others to go with it.  I have 1 more to get (the 2 headed one).  As with the last one, I will give them all a repaint, some detailing, and a base.

Like many of you, I find dragons to be magical.  I used to love to draw them when I was a kid.  Now I just add them to my ever expanding collection of wargaming miniatures.

Enough of my rambling.  Happy National Dragon's Day!!!  Enjoy!!!

C'Mon Ride the Train

For the month of  December, I decided to get a little holiday spirit (normally I'm pretty much of a Grinch).  Growing up, my father always had a toy train running through a small village beneath the tree.  To that end, I painted a 3D printed Gothic train set I purchased  back in 2019.

I did a few modifications to it. The troop transport got a pair of gun turrets added to the top.  The engine received a set of exhaust vents to the back of the cab.  The flatbed was converted to a tanker car. I attached the big gun to the car so that it can rotate 360.

I went with a black, silver, and cooper color scheme.  I think it looks pretty decent.  Take a gander.

I like to thank you for taking the time to check out my humble little blog.  Enjoy the holidays and stay safe out there!

It's Been Buggin' Me

All the way back in 2022 I bought a set of Arthropods which I finally built and painted in 2023 (see earlier posts). When I finished them, I kept thinking to myself that one was missing.  After looking around for it for a bit, I wrote it off as a false memory.  WRONG!

Last week while looking for something different to paint, I came across the long lost little bugger in a bag with a bunch of other minis that I haven't gotten around to dealing with yet.

So behold Arthropod #4; assembled, painted, and positioned on a custom base I made for said creature.  It looks quite menacing.  Rally the troopers!  "Everybody fights.  No one quits."

Dark Desires

Quite some time ago I assembled and painted several figures that I called Chaos Lords.  There was one for each of the Dark Gods (WH40K): Khorne, Nurgle, Tzeentch, and Malal.  I never got around to having one for Slaanesh...that is untill now.

I purchased this model on Etsy back in September of 2022.  It is a Tamareth figure from Archvillian Games.  It looked like so many of the images I've seen posted on the Internet of Slaanesh style heralds.  I have renamed it Syntryxa.  She's bad to the bone to say the least.

I kept to the purple, pink, and gold color scheme that is typical of Slaanesh models (see my Daemonettes and Fulgrim-Phoenician figures.)  Painting it was not too difficult.  Assembly was a different matter entirely.  Parts did not fit together properly (a common problem with many resin figures I have found).  I had to putty in some areas. The super glue would not bond the pieces together.  I had to do some trial and error to find a concoction that would work.  Despite the issues, I think the end product turned out well.

Stand back!  It's time for Syntryxa's debut!  Watch out for the blades!!!!!!!!!!

We Are The Robots

The Robots was a great song by Kraftwerk from their The Man-Machine Album back in 1978. I thought it was a fitting reference for today's topic: Kastelan Robots (with their Cybernetica Datasmith).  I bought this set on eBay a few weeks ago after seeing a fully painted model of one of the robots on Bluesky.

I decided to do a full repaint/paint and am super pleased at how the figures turned out.  The 2 robots are basically an antique gold paint scheme with black accents. The Datasmith was painted similarly to images of it I saw online.

Matching the way the one finished base looked was a bit challenging, but I think I rose to the occasion. Check out the pics.  I hope you like 'em.  Stay safe out there, folks!

Beauty and the Beast

I just finished a couple of what I think are really cool looking figures.  The armor-clad maiden is from Reaper Bones Miniatures.  She is called Taroya.  I renamed her Athenia.  She's got pink armor.  A pink and gold shield.  Her pink helmet has a metallic-look white
plume.  She also has a metallic white and gold cape.  Don't let her fool ya, she's a killer to the core.

Her sparing partner is a dragon I picked up at a thrift store for a buck.  I gave him a repaint and he's ready to light up just about anything that gets in his way.

Not sure what I'll be doing next in this hobby passion of mine.  You'll just have to check back in to find out I guess.  Take care and be safe out there.

Two More Tau

I saw this Tau Ethereal for sale on eBay at a great price....click....mine.  It came fully assembled which made painting some areas difficult.  I had a vision in my head as to how this should look and went with it.  I am super pleased with how it turned out.

The other miniature is by Reaper Bones.  I have a special place in my heart for their miniatures.  This particular one is called an Andromedan Female Hunter.  I've seen her painted up as a Tau on some sites on the Web.  I'm going to use her as a scout/sniper.  I liked the way she turned out as well.

That's all for now.  Do something nice for someone today.  Peace out.

Stinging Sensation

Periodically I check out videos from Boylie Hobby time.  He does an outstanding job creating miniatures related dioramas.  I'm especially drawn to his Weird West creations (see earlier post).  One I recently viewed involved a Monster Hunting WagonIn the video was a giant scorpion.  I thought to myself, "Hmmm...I don't have one of those."

I ran down to my neighborhood, hobby store (SCG Hobby), and picked up a Pathfinder Magma Scorpion.   I was inspired to paint it similar to a Deathstalker Scorpion.  While not my best job to date, I'm decently satisfied.  I'll probably attach it to a Tomb-King like army or some such.

Thanks for checking in.  I'm always glad that you do. Have a great one!

Sink Your Teeth into These Bad Boys

It's a pirate's life for me (or not).  I found these guys on Etsy awhile back.  I thought they were so cool looking.  I couldn't wait to get them painted and ready to sail...swim...IDK!  Anyway...they're all done.  Take a gander, old chum (LOL).

It's Tauriffic!!!

I've been keeping myself busy (and out of trouble) lately.  Putting my time to good use, I assembled and painted a rather cool looking Tau Army with Auxiliaries.  Included is a Pathfinder team (which I painted a very long time ago), the Crisis Battlesuit (which I did a few weeks ago), the Vespid Set, a set of Stealth Suits, a Kroot Carnivore Squad (painted a while back) with Krootox Rider, and some human mercenaries.  Not too bad all-in-all.

See attached pics.  I hope you like them.

The Sniper Team are some 3D prints I think I got from Etsy.  The Gue'vesa (human helpers) are a set of Merc Figures I bought several years ago.  I saw that the Tau Empire had humans in it and decided to use these Kem Var figures as some mercenaries for the Tau Army.

Float Like a Butterfly....

...Sting like a Bee.  But these little buggers (LOL) are no Muhammad Ali.  What they are are a kinda sorta almost nearly not quite WH40K Vespid Stingwings. I got them on Etsy.  They are called the Mantomorph Assault Squad.

I liked them better than the 40K version of Vespids that came out fairly recently.  They are a little chunkier and I felt would not break as easily. (I did break off and repair 2 antennae and a wing).  In the end, I loved how they turned. out.

I went with an orange paint scheme that I had seen online.  I used a deep red/brown wash.  I highlighted them with yellow/orange.  The eyes were painted metallic yellow. The wings got a coat of white.  I then gave them an aqua wash.  The wings were then coated with several layers of glitter paint.  Weapons and armor were painted silver then given a black wash.  All the metal parts were highlighted with platinum.

Rock areas were painted black. They were dry-brushed a dark gray and then highlighted with a light gray.  I gave them all a coat of clear sealant and called it done.

Check 'em out, boys and girls.  Just be careful!

For the Love of Mage Knight

I have to admit I love Mage Knight figures.  They're not the greatest sculpts or have the best paint jobs, but there is just something about them.  Maybe it's just the simplicity of them. IDK.

Any way, I picked up a few on eBay for a decent price.  When I got them, I did some dry brushing on the demon, the guys with the guns got complete repaints, and the Orcs and the Steampunk Scorpion got a few minor touch ups.  I'm now pleasantly pleased with the group.

I did get one more, but I'm saving it for a future project which I will share soon.  So what about the Tau?  They're still coming along.  I'm working on some Dark Eldar as well.

Sharing some pics of the newbies.  Enjoy!

Two by Two

Recently I painted a Tau Crisis Battlesuit.  I wasn't 100% happy with the paint job.  It was good, but not nearly my best.  I had a a several month hiatus from miniatures painting.  They say practice makes perfect and I haven't had much practice.

I'm still going through boxes since we  moved into the new house.  In one of them, I found some toys I had growing up.  There were some animal figures from back in the 70s.  They were made by Lamar Toys and were given away at  ARCO gas stations.  In the box were a set of lions and two gorillas.  They were my favorites from the Noah's Ark collection.  The lions look pretty cool and the gorillas were just plain fun.  (The gorillas look like they're ready to party.  Dancing to Grand Funk's Loco Motion maybe???)  I thought I'd give them a second chance with a fresh coat of paint and get some practice in as well.

I checked out the internet for pics of lions and gorillas and then sat down and gave it a go.  Overall, I'm pretty pleased with how they turned out.  Take a look.  As always, thanks for checking out my little blog.  I appreciate that you do.

Suit Up!

As I mentioned in my last report, I'm in WH40K mode.  I got this Tau Crisis Battlesuit online a few weeks back.  It was partially built, based and painted.  The Tau Fire Warriors I painted several years ago have a blue and gray color scheme.  Keeping to that, this guy got a silver-gray suit with metallic blue accents.  I repositioned the arms a bit and called it a day.  I'm pretty happy with how he turned out.  I think I'm going to keep to the Tau motif in February, but you never know.  Stay safe out there!

Vat's Happening??!!

While I was looking for some WH40K Miniatures I bought last year, I came across this piece of terrain that I forgot I even had.  This is a Chemical Tank.  It was a 3D print that looks amazing. I painted the liquid with shades of green, yellow, and a bit of orange.  The tank was painted gray with charcoal support columns.  The pump and bolts were painted a dark silver.  When everything dried I gave it a wash of black paint and later went in with some light gray highlights.

I added some rust to some to the metal areas,  I used the old super glue and water trick to created the overflow down the side of the tank. (Pour the super glue onto the area you want to create the flow.  Let it sit for a second or two.  Dip you finger in water and touch the superglue areas you want to raise. Repeat until you get the desired texture.)  When it dried I painted it the same way I did the liquid.  When it dried I went back and gave all the green areas a coat of sparkle paint to give a metallic feel to the chemicals.

I added two decals; a Danger Sign, and a Toxic Waste Sign.  I clear coated everything and called it a day. I plan to add this to my Chemical Plant Project whenever I get to it. Take a peek.  Don't get too close!!!
