Elf on the Shelf....or Not

I must have been nice this year.  For quite sometime I wanted this X-Men Sentinel HeroClix figure.  I bought a few other Sentinels some time ago, but I never got around to picking up this one.  I always thought the pose on this one along with the colors and facial features were so cool.  I was very happy to open up this bad boy on Christmas Morning.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Slay Deer????

...had a very shiny scythe...and sickle.  And if you ever saw it...you'd run like hell!  No dear believers, this isn't old Rudolph and it certainly never played in any Reindeer Games.  This is a Cryx Soulhunter.  It is one of the five that I'm currently working on.  This is the only one I've finished so I thought I would share.

The Soulhunters are Undead Cyborgish Centaurs (Cool right??)  These guys are part of the Warmachine World by Privateer Press. These metal minis are greatly detailed and look super.  I went with a simple palate of silvers, reds, tans, black, and a little green.  I think this one turned out decently.  I hope the others do as well.  Wish me luck!

12/23/23 - I finished the rest today.  Here's the whole team.

I doubt I'll have any more posts this year with the holidays coming and all. I'd like to take a moment and wish everyone a joyous holiday season and a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2024.

Oh, and don't forget to do any last minute shopping at kahuna kollectibles

I Am The Law

I ordered this Judge Dredd Figure on his Lawmaster Motorcyle some time ago.  I've always been a big fan of the character and the fictional world of Mega-City One.  The comic books were great.  The movies as well.  Loved Stallone!

This bad boy was a real pain to paint, but worth it.  I tried to keep the color scheme to those of the comics.  The Lawmaster is more in line with the movies.  He's all done and ready to judge any perps he comes across.  Stay out of his way!

On Thin Ice

If you have paid attention to my blog for any amount of time, you know I'm a diehard Pittsburgh Penguins fan. Much like the other pro teams in the area, the Boys of Winter are taking their fair share of lumps this year. It has been hard to watch at times.

Making matters worse is listening to the games.  The TV broadcast team got overhauled over the summer and I can't say I'm pleased.  At the desk now is Jay Caufield (who's been around for a while).  He's joined by Mike Rupp (and other former Pens), along with Dan Potash (who got bumped upstairs.)  Sorry, but Dan was more fun down on the ice with the players and coaches.  He seemed more at home there.

Replacing him is Hailey Hunter.  She is the one bright spot in this new line up.  She knows her hockey and does a great job with the interviews as well.  Calling the game are Colby Armstrong and Josh Getzoff.  Sorry guys, but you're just not doing it for me.  After years of  Bob Errey and Steve Mears and the amazing chemistry they had, the new crew is like listening to saltine crackers...bland.

Maybe it's just me.  Maybe it will take some time to get used to.  But for right now, with the team doing just so-so, it's rough.

Open Up and Say WAAAGH!!!

I've spent several weeks putting together this little gem.  It's not quite a custom Ork Waaagh Trukk or even a Snazzwagon.  I'm just going to go with Waaagh Buggy.

After mulling over design ideas for days, a mental picture of what I wanted developed.  The frame, wheels, side light, and chassis are really the Final Faction Arrow ATV. I began covering the frame with bits of plasticard, parts of sprues, granny grid, and extra dividers for storage bins, and some plastic from an old laundry detergent lid (the Ork skull on the front, metal teeth, and a panel or two were cut from it.)  The rivets are small studs for jewelry/craft.

The twin guns in the front and the rocket launcher are also from Final Faction as well as the robotic arms in the back. The smaller guns along the sides of the perch are by BrickArms.  I added oil drums, gas cans, and tarps from Tamiya.  The gas lines are made out of a cord from a computer mouse.  The giant skull on the back I hacked off an old Halloween decoration.  The deck on the back is a door from an old toy truck.  The chain is from a toilet flapper.  The exhausts pipes are cut down pieces of some Crazy Straws.  The piece on the top of the engine was a cap on a battery I recently purchased.  The tanks on the sides are from an Imex model. I bought the Ork driver on eBay and the seat on Etsy.

A bunch of superglue, red, silver, black (a few other colors too - copper, green, brown, orange, yellow, gray, and olive) paint later and ....one Ork Buggy.

The Fluff:  A band of Ork Evil Sunz found and attacked an Ogryn Desert Buggy killing its driver and crew in the process.  They towed it  back and began to convert it into a fast attack vehicle.  They added whatever the could scavenge to their new WAAAGH Machine: Big Shootas, Smaller Shootas, a Rokkit Launcha, two Grabbin Claws.  They added lots of shielding and painted it red so that it would go fast.  The finishing touch was the addition of the skull of a dead Ogryn they had killed.  All done, off they rode to find some 'umies to fight. *(I'll update the pics once I add some Ork figures to it.)

I've got some pics of this labor of love.  Don't be an Orka-Dorka, check 'em out.

Dem Old Bones

The family and I decided to go out to dinner last night.  We tend to be Olive Garden kind of folks so that's where we headed.  Upon arriving we found the parking lot full and the young man at the front desk told us that we would have a 45 minute wait.  We were hungry and that was just too long.

Back in the SUV. we headed down the strip to see where else we might dine.  We spotted a Smokey Bones and decided to give it a try.  We've eaten at various Smokey Bones over the years, but since there isn't one close to where we live, we hadn't been to one in in quite some time.  They seated us immediately and our waitress, Kat, couldn't have been any sweeter or better.  Kudos to her!

As great as she was, the food was even better.  My youngest devoured the ribs he ordered. My wife loved her pulled pork sandwich.  My oldest got a chicken sandwich and said it was fantastic.  His girlfriend and I ordered the brisket grilled cheese.  I can honestly say it was beyond exceptional.  We had French Fries all around that were quite good.  When I got the bill I was even more pleased- the overall cost was very reasonable.

Great night out with family.  Great meals.  Great service.  Great price.  Great experience.  Smokey Bones, we'll be back soon!

Wraith Riders

Check out this set of awesome mounted Ring Wraiths I found on Etsy.  They are 3D prints from a shop called Forge Master Miniatures.  These miniatures are greatly detailed and are really nice prints.  My only beef is that several of the swords were broken, a leg was broken off one of the horses, and so was a tail.  I was able to fix or replace all of the issues.

They were an easy paint and I enjoyed doing them.  I am super happy with how these figures turned out.  Take a peek.  See what you think.  HAND!

Arachnaphobia

In an earlier post I mentioned I was working on a large Spider Army.  It's finally done and looks pretty awesome.  I made a total of 48 of them.  There are 4 different poses.  Each one is hand painted and comes on a fully customized base.  There are 4 different bases.  One with branches and sticks.  One with a human skull.  The other two have either a small or large rock on them.  No two are alike.

My original plan was to use them as a massive army allied with the Drow and/or Driders. I also considered them for some "Bugs" for a SciFi game. Unfortunately for me, I'm running out of storage space.  I think I'm going to put a bunch of them up for sale.  (Fun Fact:  Did you know a group of spiders is referred to as a clutter or cluster?) You can get these cool lookin' critters on Etsy or on eBay . Maybe you'll get caught in their web and buy a bunch.  Until then, stay safe out there.

Universally Scary

'Tis the season.  Witches, Warlocks, and Werewolves.  All the things that go bump in the night.  When I was a kid I would get all geared up when it was Halloween.  In the spirit of the occasion, I have these frightening little miniatures to share.  Collectively these iconic creatures are referred to as the "Universal Monsters" because Universal Studies produced black and white movies featuring them starting in the 1920s thru the 1950s. I've loved watching those movies over the years.  For their time, they were quite scary. I also built plastic model kits (made by Revell) of most of them back in the day.

Included in the cast of characters here are:  The Frankenstein Monster, The Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolfman, The Invisible Man, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon.  These are all 3D prints from Pop Minis.  I ordered them on Etsy.  I think I did pretty decently on the paint job.   Have a gander.  I hope you like them.  TTFN.  Stay safe out there this Halloween.

Bloody Hell

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I've been working on some Warhammer Vargheists from Games Workshop.  Vargheists are leather-winged monsters which were once vampires.  Their bloodlust consumed them devolving them into deadly beasts several times the size of a man.  They roam the battlefield in packs viciously attacking any prey in a flurry of tearing claws and sharp fangs.

The trio was fairly easy to assemble.  I largely stuck to the color scheme that was in the photo on the box cover.  I liked how they looked.  Once I was finished painting them, I made each a custom base.   They are finally done and ready to make their horrifying debut right here.  Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to my nightmare.

In The Pitts

What is going on with the Pitt Panthers?  They are 1-4 this season.  Some of the games they have been in for a bit and others they got stomped.  I realize they lost some great talent at the end of the season last year (Eg. Kenny Pickett), but is that what's causing the boys in blue and gold to come up short?

We know the QB spot is a real concern for the Panthers right now.  Is Veilleux the answer?  Will moving Jurkovec to tight end help?  What about the run game?  Third down conversions seem to be a problem, how do you fix that? How about a little help from the Defense?

I hope we will see some answers as the season progresses.  It's hard to see your team get "L" after "L" week in and week out.  Come on Panthers, let's see a little more "pride" in your play. "Let's Go Pitt!"

Fly By Night

Her name is Abyslonia.  She is a part of the Legion of Everblight from the Hordes Game by Privateer Press.  She is a warlock capable of casting a myriad of spells against her enemies.  She is able to spontaneously mutate which gives her great adaptability on the battlefield.  Add some attitude and you've got yourself one nasty leader for your army.

This little metal figure was an easy and enjoyable paint.  I originally bought her to head up a dark force made up of units from a variety of manufacturers.  Vargheists from GW, Soul Hunters from Privateer Press, and several more units from Wrath of Kings.  We'll have to wait and see about that.

I like how she turned out.  I'm still working on the Vargheists.  The Soul Hunters are primed and ready to go.  The others are still in their boxes.  A WIP shall we say.

Until next time.

GG x 3

I watched Guardians of the Galaxy Volume Three last night.  As much as I loved One and Two, I found Three to be a bit disappointing.  I liked the fact that it was a Rocket Story.  I liked that the High Evolutionary was introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (great character).  That's about all I liked.

Bad jokes, bad dialogue, bad Groot-Suit, over-the-top acting, super stupid Adam Warlock, and a story that dragged on WAY too long.  It kind of felt like "Hey, let's do another Guardians movie, but no one's heart was really in it."  Don't get me wrong, I was entertained, but just mildly. So, for the record, two out of three ain't bad (at least according to Meatloaf!)

By the way the film ended, it looks like a new team will be in the making.  We'll have to see how that goes.  I hope to see more of the Ravagers (old school Guardians), especially with Gamora running with the pack.  I think a lot could be done with them.

That's it for now.  As Stan would say, "Excelsior!"

Bad to the Bone

My latest edition to the collection is a Kharn Brute.  I got this figure at the Dollar Tree.  It is from their Final Faction Line.  According to the fluff, the Kharn are an alien race determined to plunder the Earth of its resources.  I have modified several Kharn figures already and couldn't resist adding this one to the fold.

I made a multitude of modifications to the figure as well as giving it a repaint.  I first took the figure apart so I could remove the arms.  I then reassembled it and glued the head and legs into place.  Crayola Model Magic was added to where the arms were attached so that I could change the angle of the arms from the torso.  Once the arms were glued into their new positions, I was ready to add weapons.

The bone club on the right was made from a pack of 36 bones from the Dollar Tree's Halloween accessories. The bones are made from foam so I coated it with multiple layers of PVA glue and Modge Podge to harden it before a painted it.  I then sealed it.

The sword is a modified Chaos Sword from Warhammer.  I replaced the grip of the sword and the pummel (now a skull).  I had a bunch of spare parts left over from the set of Vargheists I've been working on. I added bone-pierced flesh to the upper arms of the beast, a set of tusks to the mouth, and 4 boney spikes along the spine on the back.  The top spike has an impaled upper human torso on it.

The entire creature was painted coal black.  I went back and highlighted the raised areas with a metallic purple.  When everything was dry, I clear-coated the entire figure.

The pic is not the best (sorry).  I like the way the figure turned out.  It looks like it is pissed and on a rampage.  Because of this, I have renamed the creature a Kharn Rampager.

Creepy Crawlers

Does anyone still remember those?  Does anyone still have burn scars from the heater thingy??  Good times!  These creepy crawlers aren't quite the same, but cool none-the-less.

The big guy is a repaint and slightly modified Final Faction Kharn Huntra figure from the Dollar Tree.  I closed the holes in the launchers with some putty.  I gave it a coat of carbon paint.  I then drybrushed metallic green over the raised areas.  The teeth were painted tan and the eyes metallic red.  When the teeth dried, I gave them a red wash.  When it dried, I came back in with a light beige to highlight them.

The areas that I puttied were painted carbon.  I next gave them a light coat of the metallic green.  A watered down dab of lime green was gently applied to where I closed the holes and lastly some watered down black was added there as well.  The whole thing was clear-coated and placed on an oval base.

The small spider is my prototype for my upcoming spider army.  The body was painted brown and the legs were painted with alternating sections of gray and tan.  When everything dried, I gave it a black wash.  Once it dried, I went back and drybrushed the legs and mandibles with a light beige.  I added a lighter brown to the body segments.  I then went back in with some black on the rear of the figure, were the segments meet, and were the legs attach to the body.  Lastly, some gold touches were added to the eyes.

Like the Huntra figure, this spider was clear-coated and given a base.  Not bad for a day's work.

I'm Buggin' Out

I've been spending a little time in the "insect world" as of late.  I found this cool green spider at a thrift shop.  I was going to paint it, but I liked the look of it.  After some research it turns out that some species of spiders are indeed green.  In fact,  there are over 30 varieties.  This one reminded me of the Green Huntsman Spider, so that's what I'm going with.

The other 2 figures are from the Starfinder Deep Cuts series from WizKids.  They are Shirren Technomancers.  The Shirren are a humanoid-locust like race.  I stuck to mostly earth-tones with my color scheme while painting them.  I think they look pretty decent.  Take a peek.  You can use your "bug eyes" if you want.  (I know, not one of my better "yuk-yuks.")

Last Saturday an explosion leveled 3 homes in Plum Borough, PA. Six people have died in this tragedy. Please pray for these families. If you can possibly help, here is a Go Fund Me page for donations:

Rise of the Machines

I indicated in a previous post that I was going to unveil my newest additions to my ever expanding miniatures collection.  Low and behold, the ABCs (Automated Bot Cannons).  These four beauties are modified and repainted X-4 Defense Turrets from the Final Faction Line available at Dollar Tree Stores.

I added two plastic spacers (from the local hardware store) to the front of each to achieve the cannon effect.  The figures were then spray painted silver.  When they dried, they were given a wash (to "dirty them up").  I went back in and highlighted areas with platinum.  They were each given a red laser "eye" and then some water transfer numbers were added to the front and back.  Finally the figures were clear coated and then attached to their bases.

Not bad - four figures for under $8.00.  I think they look cool.  I hope you like them too.  Check out the pic.  Until next time, keep it real.

What The Heck???

Spiders???  Dinosaurs???  Robot Cannons???  What the heck is going on on my hobby table???  The answer is that all of these things are part(s) of upcoming projects.

I'm going to make a large Drow/Drider spider army.  The Saurs will get some attention and basing (I got them for a great price at Wally World.).

The Bot-Cannons should be finished up by the end of the week.  They are modified X-4 Turret Guns from Final Faction.  I grabbed 4 of them at the Dollar Tree.  Pics to follow soon.

I'm going to need to clean up some before anything gets done.  No room to work! Yikes!!!

It's No Use Going Back To Yesterday Because I Was A Different Person Then

I love that quote from Alice In Wonderland.  This lovely miniature is Mira from Reaper Miniatures.  She is an obvious knock-off of Alice from Resident Evil.  She was a quick and easy paint.  I stayed true to the colors of her outfit in the film.  Now dear Mira/Alice is ready to kick some major zombie-mutant a$$.

Cellphone Crash

Since March, I have been involved in two automobile accidents.  Both times, I was the driver of my vehicle, stopped at a red light when rear ended by another vehicle.  Both times the driver was on her cellphone not paying attention to the stopped traffic.

Because of someone else's lack of sense and responsibility, I (and others) have had to pay the price for their stupidity.  As a result, I have been hospitalized twice.  Made to go through a battery of tests.  Endure a great deal of pain.  Had to deal with multiple doctors and physical therapists.  Take medications.  And talk to insurance agents on dozens of occasions on top of it all.

That's just me.  Then there is the car.  Finding a repair shop.  Being without a vehicle while it is getting repaired.  Making sure the repairs were done correctly.  Getting rear ended is a major pain in the a$$.

If you need to be on your cellphone, pull off to the side of the road and use it or get a hands free device in your car.  Stop being so selfish and self centered.  People our suffering (or potentially being killed) because of your poor judgement.  Here is my call:  STAY OFF THE DAMN CELLPHONE WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING!!!!

Too Cool Terrain

Had some insomnia last night.  I started watching the amazing tutorial videos on Papercuts and couldn't stop.   The dioramas this guy makes are seriously unbelievable.  I know I will never be as good (I don't have the patience) as this artist, but I can dream.  Click the link below to check out some way awesome stuff.

The Weird West

For the past few days, I have been watching a series of videos over at Boylei Hobby Time.  He is an extremely talented individual who makes amazing dioramas.  I became quite enamored with his Wild Wild WILD West sets.  Think Old West meets Steam Punk meets Giant Monsters.  Too good, right??!!  I'm putting a link to his website.  I think you'll be as impressed as I am with his incredible work.  Enjoy!

A Little Indoor Fun

A bit too hot for our liking today.  Decided to have some inside fun.  Went down to Jacksonville to a place called Autobahn Indoor Speedway.  Great time had by all.

We did some axe throwing which was funny and fun.  I had my issues.  My youngest took to it like a pro.

Next, we did some Go-Karting. (NASCAR drivers, you can all feel safe!)

The place is nice.  There are arcade games.  You can get food and beverages (the adult kind too).  They had  Corn Hole set up as well.  If you're looking for something to do while in the Jacksonville area, check it out.

Cat Fish?????

Went on a great adventure today.  We took some Backwater Cats and headed out on the Amelia River and then North to Georgia. Along the way we got to see some dolphins at play; which was spectacular.  Once we got to Cumberland Island, Georgia, we got to see wild horses which roam the beaches.  It was a beautiful sunny day in Florida.  What more could anyone ask for?

Hot Metal

While on vacation in Florida (temps in the 90s), I decided to spend some time in the AC and get a few miniatures painted.  All 10 of them are made of metal (which is unusual for me to want/have).  I plan to use all of them with my growing Starship Troopers collection.

The 1st group is a set of 4 Corsair Scouts.  Two are equipped with flamethrowers and 2 with rocket launchers.  I got these guys from Khurasan Miniatures several years ago.  I thought they were cool looking but wasn't sure what I'd do with them.

Group 2 is a set of 3 Cougar Exosuits.  These guys are produced by Rebel Minis.  Each suit has a rotary cannon and a Firestorm Missile Launcher. One suit has a flamethrower and another has a javelin launcher.

The 3rd set is made up of Grizzly Exosuits (also made by Rebel Minis).  Each suit has a jump pack, a rotary cannon and a Firestorm Missile Launcher.  In addition, 1 suit has a flamethrower and another has a javelin launcher.

All in all there is a ton of armor and firepower here to make this group completely bad a$$ on the gaming table.  Bugs beware, you've been put on notice.

On The Dot

I bought a bag of these to take on the trip to Florida.  Big mistake.  I can't stop eating the dang things.  They're completely addictive.  These come in a variety of flavors.  I can't wait to try them all!

Make No Bones About It

Here are 3 Skeletal Warriors who refuse to give up the fight.  The centaur is from Rackham Confrontation.  I will add the odd horse/man to my Living Dead of Acheron faction.   I painted him to fit in with the figures I have for that clan.

The other two figures are leftover from my Banner Saga purchase.  I removed the heads and weapons from the figures.  I added some weapons I had from Warhammer and HeroClix.  The skulls were from a bag of them that I purchased some time ago.  I envisioned them to be coated in blood from head to toe.  I have named them "The Unforgiven".  Not even Hell wants them because of their endless lust for killing and carnage.

Return of Heroscape (Again????)

Heroscapers.com has been down for some time.  I have been checking daily to see when it would come back online.  Today I saw that it was indeed available and the first thing I saw was an announcement about the potential return of my (and many others) beloved Heroscape.  Renegade Game Studios has partnered with Hasbro to produce the game once again. Check out the article with the link below.

Return of Heroscape

I'm not getting my hopes too high.  Seeing will be believing.  Until I have some new figures, terrain, etc. in my grubby little mitts, I won't be happy.  Keep those fingers crossed boys and girls.
