Fire and Ice

I thought I'd share a couple of recent pick-ups with you.  I was at Tractor Supply the other day and saw this way cool Schleich Frost Mammoth and decided for the price to grab it. The Heroclix figure is called Sindr.  She is a Fire Giant Figure from Marvel Comics.

I think both are crazy cool looking.  They will make nice additions to my collection.

On the way is a set of demons I purchased on Etsy.  I was inspired to get them because of my fondness for the Mazikeen character from Lucifer. Mazzikin are demons from Jewish Mythology.  I'll share the pics of the painted minis when I'm done.

Take care out there.  Stay safe and enjoy the day!

Not So Alien

I watched Alien: Romulus last night.  Big disappointment.  Essentially the same plot as the original movie except with teenagers/twenty somethings and a more benevolent android.  The human-alien hybrid was wild and the crash at the end was cool.  For newcomers to the franchise it might be worth a watch.

Sci Fi Tank on the Cheap

I found a pretty cool looking U.S. Abrams style tank at the Dollar Tree.  I started to wonder what could I do to modify it into something more futuristic that I could use in WH40K, Weird War, or other Sci Fi  battles.

The answer to my question was also in the Dollar Tree.  The had some action figures that had separate sets of accessories that they also sold.  I could use these to turn the tank into something a little more menacing for the dark wars of tomorrow.

A can of gray primer/paint, a tube of Super Glue, a few odds and ends from the workbench, and some leftovers from the bits box and presto:  One Amazing Futuristic Battle Tank.

I called it a Kriegshund (War Dog or Hound of War).  It's a lightly armored, heavily weaponized, and
highly mobile tank.  It has 1 main battle cannon, 1 assault cannon mounted on the right side of the turret, one set of twin missile launchers mounted to the left side of the turret, and 3 twin assault guns ( 1 on top and 1 on each side of the main body).  This canine has both bark and bite. I plan on making 2 more so I have a complete litter.  Check out the pics below.  I hope you like my new puppy!

Reading is FUNdamental

Does anybody remember that slogan from when you were a kid? (I'm old. I admit it.)  I just got the new book from my old buddies, the Writers 3.  I got to know these guys a few years back and have been reading their stuff since.  I have featured their books on this blog several times in the past.  The guys do me a solid and put up pics of my minis on their social media every once and again.

Future Imperfect contains a sci fi short story by the Writers 3 called "Peace at Last". SUPER!!! There are a bunch of really good stories by other authors in it as well.  Worth it!!!

Here is the link to their website in case you want to find out more about them and their books.  https://jflushing.wixsite.com/writers3

Out of the Rubble

Finished another piece of terrain.  This is the Fabrication Plant from Novus Design Studio.  It is from their WWII line.  I like the piece because it is resin and very sturdy.  I gave it a good scrub and then primed it.  I gave everything a black wash and then started in on the details (oil drums, pallets, gears, iron work, grates, crates, motors, etc).  I added a few other items like the poster, chain, gas cans, pipe, and a bucket.  I did some highlighting and then gave everything a clear coat.  I really like it and am happy with the finished product.  See for yourself.

Femme Fatale

Firefly is one of my favorite Sci Fi TV series.  Saffron (played by actress Christina Hendricks) is a character that appears in two episodes:  Our Mrs. Reynolds and Trash.  Saffron is a thief who will do just about anything to get what she wants.  She's definitely a fan favorite.

A while back, I bought the Firefly (Browncoats and Brigands) boardgame along with the expansion sets.  (I'm sure I'll get around to painting all of those figures sooner or later.)  What I still wanted after seeing what was included was a Saffron figure, a Jubal Early figure, a couple of "Blue Hands", and some Reavers.  With that in mind, I set out to make my own.  Saffron is the first of this group.

While sifting through my "Bitz Box", I came across a couple of pieces that I had left over from some previous mods.  I decided to use them to make a Saffron figure with my own spin on the character.  See the picture for what I came up with.  (Future Firefly mods to follow at a later date!)

Heavy Metal

Heavy Metal was the name of an animated movie that came out in 1981 which was based on the incredible magazine series that was published at the time.  It might have been shown in this little gem of a movie theater back when it had seen better days (less Chaotic times perhaps???)

This is the Metal Theatre model by Novus Design Studio.  I finally have gotten around to painting it.  The model is very similar to their other Sci Fi buildings such as Combat Burgers.  It is the third of their products that I have painted.  I like them because they are made of resin and are very sturdy,  What I don't like is that you have to scrub the heck out of them to get the mold release off (make sure that you do!!!)  The other thing is that often have warped floors and walls which is a bit of a pain.  Painted up, they look pretty cool overall.

Take a peek and see how my version turned out.  As always, I am honored that you take the time to check out my humble little blog.  Take care and have a great day!
