Reminiscing

I was doing a little work on the computer tonight (which I didn't feel like doing) and my mind started to wander.  As most of you know if you've followed my blog over the years, I am a miniature wargamer.  It's a wonderful hobby that I have enjoyed for quite some time.  My thoughts drifted tonight to a few years back when I played a ton of Heroscape with my sons and with friends.  It was always a great time with a few "friendly" arguments over rules along the way.

My kids grew up, friends moved away, life became more complicated, I got busier.  Heroscape stopped being manufactured.  Tile, terrain, dice, and figures got boxed and put away.  For whatever reason, I thought about the game tonight and really missed it.  I sat here for awhile wondering what was it about the game that made it so much fun to play.

I found this gem of an article that summed up the greatness of the game far better than I could have hoped to do.  I would like to share it with you.  If you were a player back in the day or maybe even still rolling shields and skulls, take a minute or two to read it.  I'm sure you'll be nodding your head as you do and getting a wee bit nostalgic as well. Long live Heroscape!!!

Femme Fatale

Firefly is one of my favorite Sci Fi TV series.  Saffron (played by actress Christina Hendricks) is a character that appears in two episodes:  Our Mrs. Reynolds and Trash.  Saffron is a thief who will do just about anything to get what she wants.  She's definitely a fan favorite.

A while back, I bought the Firefly (Browncoats and Brigands) boardgame along with the expansion sets.  (I'm sure I'll get around to painting all of those figures sooner or later.)  What I still wanted after seeing what was included was a Saffron figure, a Jubal Early figure, a couple of "Blue Hands", and some Reavers.  With that in mind, I set out to make my own.  Saffron is the first of this group.

While sifting through my "Bitz Box", I came across a couple of pieces that I had left over from some previous mods.  I decided to use them to make a Saffron figure with my own spin on the character.  See the picture for what I came up with.  (Future Firefly mods to follow at a later date!)

Moonshine and Mayhem

I stopped at a little place just outside of St. Marys, PA and picked up these two beauties.  Chicken Hill Distillery has a wide variety of moonshine and other beverages to choose from.  You can taste test before buying which is something that I liked.  The place itself is really cool inside and the staff was super friendly.  I'm very happy with my purchases!

On the miniatures front, I picked up this cyberdemon from the Doom boardgame on ebay a few weeks ago.  I always liked the way the figure looked.  I took my good old time painting it and decided to base the figure as well.  I love the way it turned out.  Take a look and see what you think.  As always, thanks for taking the time to check out my blog.  I appreciate it.
