Troll Slaying Demonic Succubus...

 ...in other words...the typical girl next door.  This figure is from the Reaper Bones Miniatures Line.  It is one of the many versions of their mascot Sophie.  I picked it up a couple of years back, started to paint it, and then abandoned the model.  I couldn't come up with a paint scheme that I liked.

While I was hunting for some barbarians for a another project (see earlier blog entry), I came across Sophie in a container with other unpainted/unfinished Reaper minis.  Better late than never, Sophie.  Sorry it took so long. Overall, I think she turned out pretty decently.

Well, here she is, ladies and gentlemen, making her debut on this very blog: Sophie, the Troll Slayer!!!

Ogres are like Onions

Onions have layers. Ogres have layers. This Ogre Chieftain from Reaper Miniatures Bones Line surely does.  The skin on this bad boy alone is six layers of color and probably just as many on the club.  All the leathers and wraps were painted pure black.  The furs were painted gray and the metals all painted pewter.  A wash of black all around, some dry brushing, and then the details and highlights.  When everything dried, I gave the figure a coat of satin finish and then went back in later to gave the metals a coat of high gloss.

I feel this guy may be one of the best miniatures that I have painted to date.  I am quite pleased with myself.  Take a gander and see what you think.  Enjoy the holiday and stay safe out there!

Rollie Pollie Trollie???

Forgive me for the title...sometimes I can't stop myself.  The trolls are from the Reaper Miniatures Bones Line.  I've had them for some time.  Searching for something new to paint over the Thanksgiving Holiday, these two felt  right for some reason.  The greenish one with the axe is a Mountain Troll and the white one with the rock is an Ice Troll.

It took me a few days to finish them.  I am pleasantly pleased with how they turned out.  Take a look and see for yourself.  Stay safe out there!

Riding High Again

I got a great deal on this D&D Skyjek Roc.  My original idea was to turn it into Tzeentch, a Chaos God from WH40K.  When I got it, I noticed that it had a saddle on its back.  I quickly came up with a Plan B.  I got out my old friendly neighborhood bitz box.  I found a body of a Nurgle Fell Beast Rider.  The head is from a HorrorClix figure.  The shield was from a dollar store bag of knights.

I cobbled a rider together out of the parts.  I gave it a paint job that I thought looked good.  With some Sculpey, I modified the saddle some.  When everything dried, I put it all together.  Check out the final product.

You Can Count On It!

It's been a while since I took on a Reaper Bones Miniature.  Going through my bins, I came across these two figs which I actually started about a year ago and then abandoned.  With Halloween just around the corner, I figured I'd give 'em another go.  I like the way these two little suckers turned out.  

While I was on the Reaper craze, I pulled out this guy.  I haven't painted a troll in some time and this bad boy looked super cool.  I wanted him to look a little toadish but not too toadish.  I kinda think that's just what I got. Enjoy the pics!

Where There's Smoke, There's Fire

Check out this smokin' hot Fire Giant Miniature from Reaper.  Great sculpt!  Active pose!  Very expressive!  I really enjoyed painting this one.  The base is from Reaper's new Base Boss line.  It's really great. It's well made and very sturdy.

Next project:  I'm planning to get 13 of the creepiest little minis done by Halloween.  Hopefully it will be devilishly fun!

Brutes, Beasts, and Bad A$$es

A busy July to say the least. Nine pretty cool miniatures from the Reaper Bones Collection. A handful of barbarians, a troll, an orc, an ettin, and a woodland hunter.  Some of my better work to date.  Check 'em out.

Near Perfection

Spent some time in Atlanta recently.  I'd passed through the city several times but had never spent any time there.  Big mistake!  Atlanta is a wonderful and beautiful city.  The people that I met there are among the nicest that I've met in all of my travels.  While there I stayed at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis Hotel.  The place is incredible to say the least!  It is ascetically stunning, user friendly, and perfectly situated within the city.  A quick subway ride and I was at the airport.  Great food and service at the Marquis was the icing on the cake.  LOVED  my stay there!  Almost hated to go home...almost.

While in Atlanta I went to the Escape the Room.  I had a great time.  If you have never tried one of these places it is a total blast.  My team (people I work with) finished with 9 minutes to spare.  It is a real challenge but a ton of fun at the same time.  I can't wait to try another one.

My Pittsburgh Penguins are in round 2 of the playoffs and I am as happy as a pig in mud.  So far they are looking pretty darn good against the Washington Capitals.  Love this Penguin team top to     bottom!  I think that it has the best line-up that I have seen in years. Good luck to the boys in the black and yellow!

Summer is nearly here.  I'm hoping to get my lazy backside out on the road.  I want to get up into New England and out to see a friend of mine in Detroit.  We'll see what ends up happening...although I swear I can hear Willie Nelson singing "On the Road Again"!

Also on my summer list...build a wargaming table.  I have found a few folks locally who seem to want to play.  I'm leaning towards a Necromunda table, but with so many fantasy figure that may have to wait for another time.  Maybe I'll post some pics when I'm done.
