Shang-Chi

I stated in an earlier entry that I would probably not watch Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.  It was on television last night and I decided, since I had the time, I would check it out.  Result: not bad.

To me it seemed more like a Disney movie than a Marvel film.  There was plenty of action and drama.  The story was good.  The CGI with the dragons and other cryptids was terrific.  In the end, the film just wasn't exactly my cup of tea.

Despite my opinion, I do recommend that you give Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings a look. It will certainly entertain you.  A bit of escapism these days won't hurt anyone.

If Looks Could Kill

Here's a few Femme Fatales I put together over the last couple of days.  If they look familiar then you've been checking out my humble little blog here for some time.

This ice-cold assassin is Noir.  She's for hire and there is no one she won't kill for the money.  She enjoys the good things in life and has a job that pays well.  The figure I used was one I originally made into the Baroness from G.I. Joe.  I later found a different figure that I converted instead.  A quick head swap and a little repainting and Viola!...Noir!

The two demonic archers are from my Banner Saga Miniatures.  I added some horns to them and gave them a dark and dingy paint job.  Now they serve His Satanic Majesty.  I used identical figures (minus the horns) with my barbarian horde awhile back.

The three of them are deadly.  Watch yourself!

Hidden Treasures

Quite awhile back I purchased a bunch of figures from Spikey Bits and Reaper Miniatures.  It took me some time to organize them and get them cataloged.  The other day I was thinking about my next project to paint and remembered these lovelies.

The two in the forefront are by Ghamak and the one in the back is by Reaper Miniatures.  The three of them are a part of a crew of female vampire pirates. Constance Bloodworth is the captain of the Raven (pictured in the back with her booty).  The two crew members with her are the McGreedy Sisters, Anne and Pam (who love gold more than blood).  Along with the rest of the crew, they terrorize the Seven Seas searching for blood to spill, ships to sink, and riches to take.

If you're brave enough, take a gander at their picture.  (Wait a minute.  Vampires can't be photographed! LOL!)  Shiver me timbers, ya scalawags.  I see ya shakin' in yer boots already!

Seafood Specials

Just had some Crab Rangoon Dip and Lobster Roll Dip from Park Street Deli/Aldi.  Both dips were pretty decent.  I made the crab rangoon into a quesadilla.  It was okay.  There is too much red pepper in it.  I love crab rangoon and eat it often.  This dip was just a little too spicy for my taste buds.  I put the lobster on a toasted bun and gave it a quick spray of lemon juice.  Can  you say lobster roll?!  I have to say it was pretty darn good.

All-in-all, not a bad find.  I made 2 quick and easy meals without breaking the bank.  My tank is full and I'm happy!

Messages of Madness???

I have continued my exploration of Marvel’s multiverse movies this week.  I watched Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Ant-Man & the WaspQuantumania.  I think all I still need to see is Spider-Man: No Way Home.  I was never a fan of Shang Chi so I'm going to skip that one.

Both films I recently watched were far better than Thor: Love and Thunder.  The tragic storyline of Wanda was sad but was largely true to the comic books and done well.  Seeing Wong come into his own was great too.

I also really enjoyed the introduction of Kang into the Marvel Movies.  He’s such a great character in all his forms. I’m expecting big things from him/them in the near future.

I did think both films got a little busy.  It was like they were trying to pack too much action into them.  Regardless, I did enjoy watching them.

One more to go.  I gotta check out our friendly neighborhood wall-crawler next.  Excelsior!!!

Double Feature

Does anyone still remember going to the movies or drive-in and seeing a double feature?  You got to see two movies for the price of one.  I loved going to these when I was a kid.  (I'm not going to lie; I usually fell asleep during the second movie.)

I watched a couple more of the MCU film series over the past few days.  Not quite a double feature but I still watched two films.

Marvel's Eternals was above average.  For the most part, I thought the story was good and the acting decent.  I liked the fact that they introduced the Black Knight into the universe.  The Sersi/Dane Whitman dynamic in the comic books was fantastic (I loved the team from that era).  I hope to see it carry over in the film(s).

I also saw The Black Widow which was fabulous.  In my opinion, it was the best Marvel film since End Game. Loved the story, great characters/acting, and a nice tie-up at the end.  Well done, I say!

Several more movies to go to get caught up.  I am hopeful once again that they will be of quality.  Pass the popcorn.

I Pity the Fool

...who tries to mess with the bad MoFo.  He looks like a "Shoot first. Ask questions later, kinda guy." I just finished this Reaper Bones Rach Soldier or Malvernis Soldier (It is listed both ways on their website).  I used a color combination that I've been wanting to use for a while but never got around to. I like the overall look.  I'll probably use him with my ever growing band of space aliens (maybe as a raider, mercenary, rebel, etc.).

Up next...Female Vampire Pirates!   Whaaaat????

Yummy, Yummy, Yummy

I got love in my tummy.  It's VooDoo Pretzels from Zapp's.  I blogged previously about how good the VooDoo Chips were.  These (in my opinion) are even better.  LOVE THEM!!!!  Can't stop eating them!!!!  Go get some right now or I'll stick a pin in the doll I have of you.  I'm not kidding!

I told you!

Cold Front

If you have been following my blog for any amount of time you know I enjoy a good adult beverage on occasion.  Recently I was introduced to Mike's Hard Freeze.  They're like a slushy from back-in-the-day but better.  They taste great and come in a variety of flavors.  I gotta tell ya that this summer, I'm going to enjoy a Hard Freeze (or two!)  Why not pop open a can and join me?!

Just a reminder, when indulging, keep it cool.  Have a good time, but remember to be responsible.

Shellin' It Out

I picked up these two Shell Crackers on sale from Miniatures Market awhile back. The figures are from The Wrath of Kings Game. I wanted to paint something unlike what I've painted in the past and these guys seemed perfect.  For the most part, I followed the paint scheme that was on the box which I totally liked.  I'm glad I did.

Marvel-Less???

This past week I was able to catch a couple of Marvel films on Netflix that I have been wanting to watch for some time.

Thor: Love and Thunder is one of the worst Marvel films in recent memory.  Outside of  Christian Bale's performance, nothing about this film was that good.  Poor acting, poor attempts at humor, poor script, poor just about everything.  The problem is, I can't unsee it now.

Not much better was Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.  The Atlanteans were cool.  The back story of Namor was an interesting reinterpretation of his conception.  The rest of the story was mediocre at best.  I actually fell asleep at one point. Yawn!

I think I got spoiled by the fabulous films that made up the first round of Marvel/Avenger movies.  The newer films have a lot to live up to.  I'm hoping the new Guardians of the Galaxy movie will uplift my spirits and reconnect me to the franchise.  Marvel is 0 for 2 with me right now in round two.  I hope they don't strike out with this newest release.
