Say Hello To My Little Friends

Miniatures Market had a great closeout sale a few weeks back.  I grabbed some figures from the Golem Arcana game, a set from Arcane Legions, and some other stuff.  I just finished modifying the Golems.  I will use them as 28mm models.  I eliminated the silly looking little jockey guys and replaced them with Sculpey or skulls from Secret Weapon Miniatures.  I think that they turned out decently.

The figures in the back of the picture are pretty darn big and exceptionally cool looking.  The 3 figures in the middle are about the same size as a frost or fire giant from D&D, Pathfinder, or Reaper.  The Sand Lion on the left is a tad larger than a standard 28mm figure.  Take a look and see what you think.

Pens are back in action.  Steelers got a win.  The Pitt Panthers too.  Ya gotta love the Fall here in da Burgh!

Guardian Angel

I finished my second son of the emperor.  The model is a Reaper Avatar of Aurelius.  When I first saw it online, I loved the pose of the figure and knew that I needed to have it.  Putting the wings on the model was a bit difficult, but overall, the build went well.  I am a little disappointed in the figures left hand...the fingers are somewhat disproportionate. The base is mostly custom.  I added a few more skulls,  a horn, a knife, and the severed head of a demon.   I went with a red and gold paint scheme.  The overall paint job turned out decently well.  So it's two down and eighteen to go (counting the emperor).

I ate lunch today at Ladles in Springdale, PA.  I had a grilled cheese sandwich called the Polishman.  The sandwich had a piece of sliced ham in it and a perogie.  Gotta say it was delicious!  The New England Clam Chowder that I had with it was amazing as well as was the Almond Tort that I had to top it all off.  The service was decent and the atmosphere is quaint.  It's not the first time that I have eaten at Ladles and I can assure you that it won't be the last.  They have a great menu and I have never had a bad meal there.  They also have a pretty nice bar with a good selection.  I recommend this little gem highly!

For The Emperor

As 2016 winds down I have been contemplating how I will spend my "hobby time" in 2017.  I have a hundred or more models sitting on shelves waiting to be assembled and painted.  While all of these fabulous miniatures are hoping to be given birth so-to-speak, my tiny Pinocchio's will all need to slumber in their boxes (or blister packs) for just a bit longer.

I have heard a call through the Astonomican.  The Emperor of Mankind must be reunited with his sons once more to save humanity from the destructive forces of Chaos.  (OK, so maybe I'm stretching the truth here a bit). I currently have 12 Primarch models.  The majority are from the Kabuki Knights of Legend line, but I also have some from Scibor and Reaper.  I am hoping to round up the other 7 figures over the next few months and an Emperor model to boot.  My goal is that by this time next year to have all 20 models completed and ready for a family reunion picture.

I know that this will be a challenge but it is one that I am willing to take on.  For the sake of humanity, wish me well!  And while we are wishing, let me wish all of you a safe and happy holiday season and a wonderful new year!  Take care!

Been a While

Life has a funny way of leading you onto paths that  you thought that you would never take.  My son's girlfriend recently has gone through some tough times.  She could have chose to make bad choices.  Instead had the courage to ask for help.  One step from homeless and with no where else to turn she turned to us.

We now have a beautiful, funny, smart, talented, energetic young lady staying with us.  My wife finally has another female in the home (even our cat is male) and the daughter that she had longed hoped for.  Me, I get to see a young lady get a fresh start at life.  She is wonderful.  It is sad that her own family didn't appreciate the great person that she is....their loss.  Honestly, I feel that she probably saved us as much as we saved her.  With our older son off to college and my younger son (her boyfriend) busy with college and work, my wife and I were feeling a tad out of sorts lately. My wife now has someone to talk and shop with and I have someone to share my love of music and humor.  A"win-win"!

My other son's girlfriend got me to watch Firefly on Netflix.  LOVED IT!!!!  Great cast, fun scripts, and a cool space ship...what more could a long time sci-fi nerd wish for.  Sad that it did't last longer. As Jubal Early would say, "Does that seem right to you?"

Bought a couple of Chaos Daemon Princes for my WH40K Daemon Army.  I am hoping that they will complete it.  You know as well as I do that I'm a miniatures addict and will never truly be done.  I'm pretty sure that there will be more Chaos to come.

I just finished painting a Reaper Bones Ape-X figure.  On a scale of 1 to 10 I'd give it an 8.5.  While not 100% satisfied with it, my attempts to "improve it" have only seemed to make it worse.  Time to quit while I'm ahead.

Nothing new on the brew front.  I've been enjoying a case of Beck's while hanging around the old fire-pit with friends.  We haven't solved all of the world's problems yet but we're working on it.

Summer is nearly over...sad but true.  The leaves will be changing and bright yellow school buses will delay our early morning commutes.  Soon the crispness in the air will give way to dancing snowflakes.  The circle of life continues.  It is the people in our lives that make the circle complete!
