Wrath of Khan

Behold the conqueror of the vast plains. Behold his majesty and grace. Behold...alright, that's enough.

This model was pretty much of an easy build.  Despite the missing shoulder guard (see previous blog entry), I think it turned out to be pretty cool looking.  For the missing piece, I cobbled together a new one.  Keeping to the Oni theme in the base, I took an old demon head that I had and modified it into a shoulder guard.  While I would have liked to have had the original piece, I think what I put together turned out to be fairly decent.  I kept the color scheme to red, gold, and white.

The base that was included was small and rather dull.  I created a larger one using Sculpey,  I added a few skulls from Secret Weapon Miniatures and a demonic hand which had once belonged to the giant monster (head) on the original base.  It kinda looks like the hand might be "giving someone the bird."  I wonder who that could be...maybe the rude person from my previous blog entry!

I feel the end result left me with out any major scars, real or imagined. (Think about it for a minute!)  Until next time.....

Kabuki Unmasked

If you have followed my blog over the past couple of years, then you know that I have collected many models from Kabuki Studios.  Most of the models have come from their Knights of Legend line.  I have featured photographs of the finished figures in many of my entries along with comments about them.  I have enjoyed collecting, building, painting, and in some cases modifying their models.

Several of the models that I purchased were missing parts: a finger on one figure, an arm from another, a cingulum from a third.  With bits that I had from other models, I was able to fabricate the missing pieces with little problem.  Recently I opened the package for the Monghol Knight Model which I bought a few months back and found that it was missing a shoulder guard.  Since the shoulder guard for the figure was very unique, I wrote to Kabuki's customer service department to see if I could get the part or a replacement.  Never in my wildest dreams did I expect the kind of response that I got from them.  Take a look at the email correspondence below.

I have purchased more than a dozen of Kabuki's figures from companies like Cool Mini or Not, Noble Knight Games, and Hangar 18 Miniatures.  These figures aren't cheap and I have spent a good deal of money on them.  I have also bought figures from other companies with little to no issues.  When there have been, these companies have been more than gracious in helping to correct the situation and show their appreciation for the business.  I guess that it is that type of customer service that I am used to.  Perhaps the folks at Kabuki Studios could take a lesson from some of their distinguished competition in this area.

What's sad is that I genuinely like their figures. However, from now on, I'll buy from companies that appreciate my business and my customer loyalty.  Live and learn!

Heads Up

Done!  I just finished the Kabuki Knights of Legend Hydra Knight.  Since it is the opposite "bookend" to their Ghost Knight, I kept the color schemes the same but reversed the locations of the colors on the figure.  I love the pose of this model.  It is very active in comparison to some of their other figs.  So now I have the Alpha and the Omega for this fine set of knights.

I now have three figures left to complete for the Primarch Project.  Up next will be Kabuki's Monghol Knight.  Then I'll take on their First Knight and finally, at long last, the big daddy himself....The Emperor!  More to follow soon!

Farewell, Matey

I grew up loving baseball in the 'Burgh as a kid.  Like most folks here, my favorite Pirate was Roberto Clemente.  Now my second favorite all-time Bucco is gone.  I was so disappointed to hear of Andrew McCutchen being traded to the Giants.  "Cutch" was loved by the fans in Pittsburgh and I believe he loved us back.  He was one of us.  Cutch was a "Picksburgher".

Our loss is the Giants' gain.  I wish him nothing but the best with his new team.  Perhaps, he might finally get to the World Series. One can only hope.  Good luck, Cutch!

Hungry Like The Wolf

I had a howlin' good time putting together everyone's favorite King of the Wolves.  The model is from HiTech Miniatures.  It is their Odinn figure.  Great pose, cool base, nice detail.  Outside of cleaning off some flash and digging out an area to connect the left arm, the project was a breeze.  I used the image below as an example of how I wanted the figure to look when I was done painting it.  In my mind, I felt that this savage hunter would best be served by being able to blend into his harsh surroundings. I feel like I pulled it off.  Take a gander and see what you think.  If you like it,"Clap for the Wolfman"!!!

Back on Track

Yes sir, the boys in black and gold have looked great the past two games.  Goals seem to becoming from a variety of players on different lines plus from defense-men.  Murray and Jarry are doing a decent job in net.  Hopefully the Pens are turning the corner.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
LET'S GO PENS!!!!

Seeing Ghosts

I've finished my first model for the Primarch Project for 2018.  This is the Kabuki Knights of Legend Ghost Knight.  Outside of cleaning off a little flash, this figure was a dream to work on.  Truthfully, I love this model.  It's got a cool pose, great details, and an awesome base.  The figure is a little larger than many of the KOL models which I really like.  It is a resin figure which I found really easy to assemble and paint.  Nothing but good things to say!

The Wolf King is up next.  I'm using the HiTech Odinn model for the project.  I'm looking forward to see how it will turn out.
